August is launching August for Agents, a feature that lets AI agents working inside a company ask its chosen law firm for legal help.
It points to a practical question: as agents take on more business work, what happens when they reach a decision that needs legal judgement?
How it works
An agent handling a supplier renewal might flag a restriction on how customer data can be used. It can then send the clause and a proposed next step to a service overseen by the company’s law firm.
If the firm has approved an automated response for that issue, the service can return it. If not, a lawyer reviews the request and signs off.
The law firm chooses which materials the service can use and remains responsible for the advice. August provides the access controls, source links and audit trail.
Firms can also turn repeatable legal work into clearly scoped, fixed-price services.
What founders should take from this
The product opportunity is making legal review part of the workflow. Companies without an in-house legal team could benefit from that connection to external counsel.
The DealTechno take
Building this kind of service takes people who understand both the technology and the work.
Legal engineers, product teams and implementation specialists need to translate legal judgement into clear rules for automation and review. Founders should define who owns those decisions as carefully as they define what the agent can do.
