August has launched Products, a feature designed to help law firms package legal services and sell them under their own brand. Coverage published on 21 October describes an approach combining AI agents with a firm’s own expertise and lawyer approval.
For LegalTech founders, the interesting detail is the commercial model it supports: a defined service with a price set in advance.
What August Products does
According to August, firms define the intended customer, the information the client must provide and the price.
AI agents then carry out work using the firm’s playbooks and templates. The firm decides which outputs require lawyer approval before reaching the client. When a lawyer corrects an agent’s work, August can save that correction as a reusable skill for later matters.
Australian firm Hicksons is cited as already delivering some work through August on a fixed-price basis.
These are reported product capabilities and customer statements, rather than independently verified performance results.
Why it matters for founders
Fixed-price work gives efficiency a different commercial role. If delivery takes less time while the agreed scope and quality are maintained, the provider can retain more of the fee.
That makes the customer conversation broader than time saved. It includes which services are suitable, what information is needed and where professional review belongs.
The announcement does not establish that every legal service can be packaged this way or that recurring revenue is guaranteed. Scope and delivery still need careful definition.
The DealTechno take
For founders hiring sales, solutions or customer success talent, this is a useful example of why understanding the customer’s work matters.
A strong demonstration should explain the service being delivered, the required inputs and the approval process. Ask candidates to walk through those details rather than relying on a confident feature presentation.
