Legora has partnered with The American Law Institute to bring its Restatements of the Law into Legora’s legal research platform.
The partnership adds respected legal material to the product, but its significance goes further. It addresses one of the hardest questions in legal AI, if a lawyer can inspect and trust the authority behind an AI-generated answer.
Why the Restatements matter
The American Law Institute’s Restatements clarify principles of US common law across areas including contracts, torts, property and trusts.
They are produced through a detailed process involving judges, practising lawyers and legal scholars. Courts and practitioners have relied on them for decades when interpreting and applying common-law principles.
Once the integration is available, lawyers will be able to access this material within Legora instead of searching a separate database. The Restatements will give the platform additional legal context while allowing users to trace answers back to the source.
That traceability matters. An answer becomes far more useful when the lawyer can follow its citations and assess the authority for themselves.
Trust is a product requirement
Legal AI can produce increasingly sophisticated answers. Lawyers still need to know whether the underlying information is reliable, current and relevant to the matter in front of them.
Legora has built its legal research offering around comprehensive data, an organised map of how the law connects and an AI-native citation system. Directly licensed ALI content adds another recognised source to that foundation.
This has a practical effect. If lawyers cannot verify an answer, they may need to repeat the research elsewhere. Clear sourcing allows them to review the material, apply their own judgement and use the technology with greater confidence.
The DealTechno take
As more legal research begins inside AI platforms, source quality becomes part of the user experience.
A fast answer saves time only when the lawyer can understand where it came from and decide whether it can be relied upon. That requires strong technology, carefully structured legal data and people who understand how lawyers assess authority.
LegalTech companies that treat trust as a core product requirement will need talent capable of connecting those disciplines.
