The launch focuses on indirect tax, where EU-level rules are interpreted across national jurisdictions. For LegalTech founders, the announcement is worth watching for both its publishing approach and its plans to distribute commentary through other AI tools.
What the library includes
According to Moonlit, the commentaries are organised article by article and draw on legislation and case law from EU member states.
Each proposition links to the provision it interprets and its supporting source, allowing readers to check the original publication.
Paid academic editors and practitioner-authors review drafts at publication. Review badges identify expert-validated passages, while reference dates show the state of the law described.
Moonlit says its underlying Data Layer updates daily and flags new rulings to editors, who review and revise affected commentary. That does not mean every commentary is automatically updated each day.
Access beyond Moonlit
The company is also bringing Commentaries to its Data API and MCP connector, intended to make the material accessible within AI tools such as Copilot, ChatGPT and Claude.
Its product page identifies data protection as the next planned field.
Free reading should be distinguished from commercial integration. Founders considering using the content in their own products should confirm the applicable access and licensing terms.
The DealTechno take
In last week’s candidate conversations, some experienced professionals wanted deeper technical specialisation and more influence over how technology is used.
For founders, a clear product proposition helps define those opportunities. What customer problem will the person own? What expertise will they develop? How will their contribution improve the product or its adoption?
Moonlit’s launch is a prompt to sharpen both the sales message and the hiring brief: be clear about the work customers value and the capabilities needed to deliver it.
