Who Series B companies hire

At Series B the motion works; the job is to scale it into enterprise accounts and new markets. Hiring shifts to senior specialists and managers.

  1. Enterprise Account Executives. Selling to large law firms, Fortune 500 legal teams and financial institutions.
  2. First-line Sales Managers. Coaching and forecasting for teams of five to eight AEs.
  3. Senior Legal Engineers and a Head of Legal Engineering. Legal engineering becomes its own function with pre-sales, post-sales and custom-build tracks.
  4. Head of Customer Success and expansion-focused CSMs / Account Managers. Net revenue retention becomes a board metric.
  5. Senior Solutions Engineers. Security, integration and procurement-heavy enterprise deals.
  6. CRO / VP Sales. Often a second-generation sales leader replacing or sitting above the Series A hire.
  7. US or UK launch team. Usually an enterprise AE and legal engineer pair in New York or London.

Senior individual contributors take 45–70 days from search start to signed offer; leadership hires take three to four months. At this level, UK notice periods are usually three months and garden leave is common for sales leaders joining a competitor.

What's different about hiring in LegalTech at Series B

Where Series B hiring goes wrong

  1. Promoting the best AE to manager by default. You lose your top closer and gain an untrained manager. Hire or develop for coaching and forecasting.
  2. Hiring a CRO before fixing pipeline data. A new CRO's first 90 days go on rebuilding the forecast. Hire RevOps first or alongside.
  3. Treating legal engineering as a cost centre. Under-levelled legal engineering teams lose their best people to better-funded competitors who pay them as revenue roles.
  4. Ignoring notice periods and garden leave in the plan. A CRO signed in October may not start until the following spring. Start leadership searches a quarter earlier than feels necessary.
How we built these numbers, and sources

Ranges combine public 2026 compensation and hiring benchmarks with DealTechno's own LegalTech search data: 39 permanent LegalTech hires since early 2025 and 40+ live searches across the UK and US. They reflect London and the main US hubs; regional UK offers typically run 10–20% lower. "Search to signed offer" is our estimate of elapsed time for a well-run process.
